Sustainable Strategy

It is the actionable steps the college takes, to improve its sustainability  Performance. Sustainable strategies involve integrating environmental, social, and economic considerations into the Institution's operations and decision-making, aiming for a long-term positive impact

History

Baker College for Women, Kottayam, came into being in June 2014, when it's Management, the CSI Madhya Kerala Diocese applied for, and was sanctioned with a Women's College, to mark the Bicentenary of the arrival of CMS Missionaries in Kottayam and the beginning of Women's education in South India. Education thus, abolished slavery, that was prevalent in the early nineteenth century Kottayam. Education of six girls in the backyard of Rev. Henry Baker's (Sr.) Residence, evolved into the Ms. Baker Memorial Higher Secondary School and Baker College for Women, Kottayam. Like other Baker Institutions, Baker College for Women too, began it's journey in humble settings of the Women's Hall of CMS College. Although, our present society is focussed towards accelerating equality initiatives  with the aim of closing gender gaps and promoting women empowerment, there still exists a percentage of women, who prefer to study in a women's College. In view of the same, Inclusion along with Sustainability, continue to remain the core values of Baker College for Women.

Evolution of Sustainability Practices at the College

1. The initial six year phase of the College (2014 - 2020), focussed mainly, on academic evolution and setting up of the much needed infrastructure and resources like, water, electricity and connectivity.

2. Everything went online, during the next two years (2020 - 22), the pandemic phase. Adding to COVID constraints at the College were, a water stressed Dry Campus, with Deciduous Mahogany, Casuarina and Bamboo plants, Marginalized Women students and  Dearth of Infrastructure and Resources.
